Located halfway between Lausanne and Yverdon-les-Bains, the Bavois Nature rest stop invites you to take a break that’s more than just a quick stop. Looking out over the vast Orbe Plain, an impressive view opens up all the way to the striking peak of the Suchet—a moment to take a deep breath, pause, and savor the moment.
At the Bavois (VD) highway rest stop, the existing water softening system (Pendel 200) unexpectedly failed due to several leaks. The situation was critical: With a water hardness of about 45 °fH, there was a high risk of limescale buildup in sensitive kitchen appliances.
During the downtime, operations had to be maintained without a water softener. The entire water supply for the facility was affected—only the fire hydrants and the landscape irrigation system are not connected to the water softening system. Equipment such as the combi-steamer and the dishwasher are particularly sensitive to limescale. A fast, reliable, and cost-effective solution was needed.
A compact temporary solution was installed on short notice to ensure uninterrupted operation and effectively protect the connected equipment from scale buildup. At the same time, the new, more powerful Fawa® Top 250 system was designed, manufactured, and prepared for installation.

In Switzerland, water is considered „fairly hard» at 32 °fH and „very hard» at 42 °fH. With a hardness level of about 45 °fH, the Bavois rest stop clearly falls into the upper category—a range in which water softening is no longer optional in commercial and food service settings.
Combination steamers, dishwashers, coffee makers, and water heaters are particularly susceptible to limescale buildup. Hard water shortens their service life, increases cleaning and maintenance costs, and raises energy consumption due to scale buildup on heating elements.
