Protecting older galvanized steel pipe systems from corrosion (rust)
Drinking water flowing through galvanized steel pipes can turn red. This is due to rust deposits that have formed inside the pipes. The pipes can be so badly affected that they become leaky and water damage can occur. Repairs to such pipes can be very costly. By applying a chemical substance, a protective layer is built up over the pipe surface, which prevents further corrosion.
How does corrosion protection work?
A conditioning agent is dispensed into the pipes using a dosing pump based on the latest membrane technology. This builds up a protective layer on the inside of the pipe and prevents further corrosion of the pipe. The conditioning agent is released into the pipe by the dosing pump depending on the water consumption.
The pipes are protected against further damage and the water is no longer discolored. Sensitive appliances and fittings are protected against discoloration and blockages caused by rust particles.

The dosing pumps are usually installed downstream of the filter and pressure reducer and, if present, also downstream of the softening system. In addition to an injection valve, which feeds the conditioning agent into the circuit, an additional water meter is installed to regulate the dosing quantity precisely according to water consumption. Depending on the size of the pipe system, the appropriate amount of agent to be introduced is determined by measurement.
