About the Project: Skyline Resort and Zebra Gastrostrobar

The Skyline Resort is located on the Adriatic coast in Budva—one of Montenegro’s most famous tourist hotspots. The „Zebra Gastrostrobar» operates the resort’s main dining facility: a café and restaurant during the day, and a bar serving cocktails and wine in the evening. Breakfast, lunch, coffee, drinks, and snacks are all part of a shared kitchen-bar package.

It was clear to management from the very beginning: Given these high standards and this level of use, water quality cannot be left to chance—it is the foundation for the taste, appearance, and longevity of all the equipment.

The Six Project Goals

When planning the water solution, six clear objectives were defined—each of which addresses a direct benefit for the operation, the guests, or profitability:

Customized Water Quality

The perfect water for every process in the kitchen and bar.

Consistent Water Quality

Consistent values throughout the year, regardless of fluctuations in raw water.

Optimal flavor

For beverages, coffee, and ice cubes—water is the invisible main ingredient.

Crystal-Clear Glasses

No mineral stains on wine, cocktail, and water glasses after washing.

Protection of Equipment

Combination steamers, coffee makers, dishwashers, and ice makers are free of limescale and last longer.

Assist for 10+ points

A central system reliably supplies power to all points of use simultaneously.

More than 10 consumption points—all supplied by a single system

What makes this project unique is that a single central system simultaneously supplies water to two entire functional areas—the kitchen and the bar—with a total of eleven water outlets. Each of these outlets requires the appropriate water quality for its specific application.

Effect in Practice: Water as the Main Ingredient

At the end of the day, how does centralized water treatment benefit guests and the business? Here are four examples:

Coffee is 97% water

Water is the solvent that extracts the flavors from the coffee bean. The mineral composition of the water determines which flavors are brought out—and which are suppressed. In a premium café setting, the water is the difference between a „good» and an „outstanding» espresso.

Crystal-Clear Glasses

When treated water is used, no mineral deposits remain on the glasses after rinsing. This is especially essential in upscale restaurants: wine and cocktail glasses must be perfectly clear when served to guests.

Ice cubes: Clear instead of cloudy

Ice cubes made from purified water are crystal clear and melt more slowly. They dilute drinks less and don’t affect the taste with mineral residues—an important difference when it comes to premium cocktails.

Bread becomes softer and more flavorful

In the kitchen, water quality has a direct impact on dough consistency and flavor. Purified water without above-average mineral content makes bread softer and brings out the natural flavors of flour, yeast, and sourdough.

An Overview of the Plant Line

The Fatro® A200 It is the centerpiece, but not the entire solution. At the Skyline Resort, a six-stage treatment system was installed that meets every water quality requirement:

  • 1. Mechanical filtration: Pre-filtration of Particles and Suspended Solids
  • 2. AKVANTIS U3 – Water Softening: Removing water hardness to protect all downstream appliances
  • 3. AKVANTIS C3 – Activated Carbon: Dechlorination and Removal of Organic Compounds
  • 4. AKVANTIS Fatro® A200 – Reverse Osmosis: Deep Cleaning Using Membrane Technology for Demineralized Water
  • 5. pH Adjustment and Remineralization: Reintroduction of natural minerals for a balanced drinking water taste
  • 6. AKVANTIS WaterTank: Buffer tank with disinfection and a pressure pump station for distribution to all points of use

This modular design is one of its major advantages: Depending on the raw water quality and the specific requirements, individual stages can be omitted, added, or sized differently.

Akvantis Technology in Switzerland

🇨🇭 AKVANTIS TECHNOLOGY IN SWITZERLAND

Exclusively through Frei AquaService AG

Frei AquaService AG is Akvantis’ exclusive distribution partner in Switzerland. This means that the same technology used at the Skyline Resort Budva and in many other international premium projects is also available to Swiss hotels, restaurants, resorts, and food service establishments—with local consultation, Swiss service, and the quality you’ve come to expect from Frei AquaService.

We provide personalized consultation, design the system to meet your specific needs, and handle both installation and maintenance—all from a single source, with local support.

For which Swiss companies would such a solution be of interest?

The AKVANTIS product line is ideal for any situation where multiple points of use require high-quality water simultaneously and where water quality directly affects product quality or equipment protection:

  • Hotels and resorts with their own dining options
  • Restaurants and gastropub concepts with a bar area
  • Premium Cafés and Specialty Roasters
  • Mountain huts and restaurants with challenging raw water
  • Conference Centers, Event Venues, and Banquet Halls
  • Breweries, distilleries, and mineral water companies
  • Food and Beverage Production Using Water as the Main Ingredient

In all these cases, it’s worth considering a centralized solution: A properly sized system can serve many locations simultaneously, requires less maintenance than multiple individual units, and delivers consistent quality throughout the year.

Frequently Asked Questions About Akvantis OSMO Technology

This FAQ section is tailored to typical search queries from Swiss restaurant and hotel owners and is optimized for Google Featured Snippets.

Why use a central system instead of several individual filters?

A central system supplies all points of use with water of the same, consistent quality. It requires significantly less maintenance than multiple individual filters, is easier to control, and allows the water quality to be adjusted to suit every application—from drinking water to dishwasher water.

What is the difference between a VE cartridge and a reverse osmosis system like the Fatro® A200?

A VE cartridge (ion exchanger) specifically removes dissolved salts and hardness-causing substances and is suitable for moderate usage volumes. A reverse osmosis system such as the Fatro® A200 produces demineralized water for significantly higher consumption volumes and a wide range of simultaneous applications—such as drinking water, coffee makers, dishwashers, and ice cube production—all from a single source.

Is an OSMO system worth it even for smaller businesses?

Akvantis offers the OSMO line in various sizes. The A20 serves about 10 points of use—and for smaller facilities, there are correspondingly smaller models available. We’ll provide you with personalized advice on the right sizing.

What is the service like in Switzerland?

As the exclusive Swiss distribution partner, Frei AquaService AG handles consulting, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and on-site service—with Swiss service technicians and the reliability you’ve come to expect. The technology comes from Bavaria; the service comes from Switzerland.

How does Akvantis differ from other water treatment manufacturers?

Akvantis combines modular system lines with state-of-the-art control technology and a buffer storage concept that reliably handles even large peak loads. The brand is well-established in the international premium hotel and restaurant sector—as evidenced by references such as the Skyline Resort.

Why We Rely on Akvantis

„When it came to centralized water treatment solutions serving multiple points of use simultaneously, we spent a long time searching for a manufacturer that could offer modular system lines, professional buffer tanks, and sophisticated control systems—all from a single source. In Akvantis, we have found exactly that partner. This enables us to offer solutions to Swiss hotels, resorts, and restaurants that are already in use in premium projects around the world.«
